Resume & Uploaded Content Policy
Your ownership rights over uploaded content, our limited processing license, prohibited uploads, and how AI uses your resume data.
Your Ownership Rights
You own your resume and all content you upload to JobCompanion. Uploading content to our platform does not transfer ownership to us. We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your resume, cover letters, or any other content you create or upload.
- Your resume remains your property at all times
- AI-generated content created from your resume (cover letters, analyses) belongs to you
- You can download, delete, or export your content at any time
- We will never sell, license, or distribute your resume to third parties
Limited Processing License
By uploading content to JobCompanion, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license to:
- Store your resume and uploaded files securely on our servers
- Process and analyze your resume using AI to provide platform features
- Display your resume content within your account interface
- Use extracted resume data to generate job matches and application materials
- Transmit relevant resume data to our AI provider (OpenAI) for processing
This license is strictly limited to operating the platform for your benefit. It does not include:
- Sharing your resume with employers without your explicit action
- Using your resume to train AI models
- Selling or licensing your resume data to third parties
- Using your resume for any purpose other than providing JobCompanion services to you
This license terminates when you delete your content or close your account.
Prohibited Uploads
You may not upload content that:
- Contains malware, viruses, or malicious code
- Infringes on the intellectual property rights of others
- Contains false, fabricated, or misleading credentials or work history
- Includes personal data of third parties without their consent
- Is defamatory, harassing, or illegal
- Violates any applicable law or regulation
- Is not a genuine resume or job-related document
- Contains sensitive personal data of others (e.g., social security numbers, financial data)
AI Analysis Usage
When you trigger AI features, your resume content is processed as follows:
What is extracted
- Skills and competencies (technical, soft, domain-specific)
- Work experience: job titles, companies, dates, responsibilities
- Education: degrees, institutions, graduation dates
- Certifications and professional credentials
- Career level and seniority indicators
How extracted data is used
- Generating job match scores against available listings
- Pre-filling application workflow templates
- Generating personalized cover letter drafts
- Identifying skill gaps relative to target roles
- Providing career coaching recommendations
Data sent to AI providers
Extracted text (not the raw file) is sent to OpenAI's API for AI processing. OpenAI processes this data under their API data usage policy and does not use API data to train their models by default.
Storage & Access
- Resume files are stored in private Supabase Storage buckets
- Access is restricted to your account only — other users cannot access your files
- Files are encrypted at rest and in transit
- Our team does not access your resume files except for technical support with your explicit permission
- Automated systems (AI processing, matching) access files only when you trigger a feature
Removing Your Content
You can remove uploaded content at any time:
- Delete individual resume files from the Resume Management page
- Request full account deletion to remove all uploaded content
- Contact us at privacy@jobcompanion.app for manual deletion assistance
Deleted files are removed from active storage immediately. Encrypted backups may retain deleted files for up to 30 days before permanent deletion.
Extracted resume data (skills, experience) stored in our database is deleted along with the associated resume file or upon account deletion.
