AI Assistance Disclosure

A transparent explanation of how JobCompanion uses artificial intelligence to assist your job search, and why your review and approval is always required.

Last updated: May 18, 2026← Legal Center
JobCompanion uses AI as an assistant, not an autonomous agent. Every AI output is a draft for your review — nothing is submitted to an employer without your explicit approval.

Overview

JobCompanion integrates AI technology to help you move faster and more effectively through the job search process. AI assists with analysis, drafting, and recommendations — but you remain in control of every decision and submission.

This disclosure explains exactly which features use AI, what data is processed, and what limitations apply. We believe in transparency about AI use so you can make informed decisions about how to use our platform.

AI-Generated Cover Letters

When you initiate an AI-assisted application workflow, JobCompanion generates a personalized cover letter draft using:

  • Your resume content (skills, experience, education)
  • The specific job description and requirements
  • Your stated preferences and tone settings (if configured)
  • Context from your previous applications (if available)

What the AI produces

A draft cover letter tailored to the specific role. This draft is:

  • Displayed to you in the application workflow for review
  • Fully editable — you can change any word, sentence, or section
  • Not submitted anywhere until you explicitly approve and submit
  • Saved to your account for future reference
AI cover letters are starting points, not finished products. Always review for accuracy, tone, and alignment with your actual experience before submitting to any employer.

AI-Generated Application Answers

For job applications with specific questions (e.g., "Why do you want to work here?", "Describe a challenge you overcame"), JobCompanion's AI can generate suggested answers based on:

  • Your resume and work history
  • The specific question being asked
  • The job description and company context

These answers are suggestions only. You must review them for accuracy and authenticity. Submitting AI-generated answers that misrepresent your experience is your responsibility.

Resume Analysis

When you upload a resume, our AI analyzes it to extract and evaluate:

  • Skills (technical, soft, industry-specific)
  • Work experience and role history
  • Education and certifications
  • Career trajectory and seniority level
  • Potential skill gaps relative to target roles
  • Resume quality signals (formatting, completeness, keyword density)

Analysis results are used to power job matching, generate application materials, and provide career recommendations. Analysis accuracy depends on the quality and completeness of your resume.

Resume analysis is not a professional resume review. For expert feedback, consider working with a certified resume writer or career coach.

AI Job Matching

JobCompanion uses AI to score and rank job listings based on your resume and preferences. Match scores are calculated using:

  • Skill overlap between your resume and job requirements
  • Role title and seniority alignment
  • Location and remote work preferences
  • Industry and company type preferences
  • Salary range alignment (when data is available)

Match scores are estimates on a 0–100 scale. A high match score does not guarantee an interview or job offer. Employers may have requirements not captured in the job listing.

Why Human Review Is Required

We require human review of all AI-generated content before submission for several important reasons:

  • AI models can hallucinate — generating plausible-sounding but factually incorrect statements
  • AI cannot verify your actual experience — only you know what is accurate
  • Tone and voice may not match your personal style or the company culture
  • AI may miss context about your specific situation or career goals
  • Submitting inaccurate information in a job application can have serious professional consequences
  • Employers increasingly use AI detection tools — overly generic AI content may hurt your application

We believe the best outcomes come from AI-assisted, human-approved applications — not fully automated ones.

No Fully Autonomous Submission in Current Beta

In the current beta version of JobCompanion, no application is submitted to any employer without your explicit review and approval.

  • AI-assisted workflows pause at the review stage and wait for your approval
  • You can edit, reject, or approve each generated document
  • No form is filled on a third-party website without your knowledge
  • No application is submitted on your behalf in the current beta

Future auto-apply features will require explicit opt-in, additional safety checks, and per-job approval thresholds. These features are not active in the current beta.

Current status: All AI features require your review. Auto-apply is coming soon with full safety controls.

How AI Uses Your Data

When you use AI features, the following data is sent to our AI provider (OpenAI) for processing:

  • Extracted text from your resume (not the raw file)
  • Job description text for the specific role you are applying to
  • Application questions (when generating answers)
  • Your stated preferences and tone settings

We do not send: your email address, password, payment information, or personally identifying metadata to AI providers. OpenAI processes this data under their API data usage policy and does not use API data to train their models by default.

AI Model Information

JobCompanion currently uses OpenAI's language models (GPT-4 series) for AI features. Model capabilities and limitations:

  • Training data has a knowledge cutoff — the model may not know about very recent companies or roles
  • Model outputs are non-deterministic — the same input may produce different outputs
  • Models can make confident-sounding errors (hallucinations)
  • Models do not have access to real-time internet data
  • We may switch AI providers or models as the platform evolves
