Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how JobCompanion uses cookies and similar tracking technologies when you visit and use our platform.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, remember your preferences, and provide information to website operators. Cookies do not contain executable code and cannot access other files on your device.

In addition to cookies, we may use similar technologies such as web beacons, pixel tags, local storage, and session storage. This policy covers all such technologies collectively referred to as "cookies."

2. How We Use Cookies

By using JobCompanion, you consent to the use of cookies as described in this policy. We use cookies to provide a functional, secure, and personalized experience on the Platform. We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles or sell your data to third parties.

3. Categories of Cookies We Use

3.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the Platform to function and cannot be disabled. They are set in response to actions you take, such as logging in or setting your preferences.

These cookies are set by Supabase Auth and are required for the Platform to function. Disabling them will prevent you from logging in or accessing protected features.

3.2 Functional Cookies

Functional cookies remember your preferences and settings to provide a more personalized experience. These include:

  • UI preferences (e.g., selected tab, sort order, filter settings)
  • Session state for multi-step workflows (e.g., resume upload progress)
  • Language and locale preferences if applicable

These cookies are stored in your browser's local storage or session storage and are cleared when you close your browser or log out.

3.3 Analytics Cookies (Future Use)

We may in the future implement analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) to understand how users interact with the Platform. If and when analytics cookies are implemented, we will:

  • Update this Cookie Policy with specific details about the analytics provider and cookies used
  • Provide a mechanism for you to opt out of analytics tracking
  • Ensure analytics data is aggregated and anonymized where possible
  • Not use analytics data for advertising or profiling purposes

As of the date of this policy, no third-party analytics cookies are active on the Platform.

4. Session Storage and Local Storage

In addition to cookies, we use browser-based storage mechanisms:

  • Session Storage: Temporary data stored for the duration of your browser session. This data is automatically cleared when you close your browser tab. Used for in-progress form state and temporary UI state.
  • Local Storage: Persistent data stored in your browser until explicitly cleared. Used by Supabase Auth to maintain authentication state between sessions. You can clear local storage through your browser settings.

5. Third-Party Cookies

JobCompanion does not currently use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels. The only third-party cookies present on the Platform are those set by Supabase for authentication purposes, which are governed by Supabase's own privacy and cookie policies.

If you access the Platform through a link from a third-party website or social media platform, that third party may set their own cookies on your device. We have no control over third-party cookies and recommend reviewing the cookie policies of any third-party sites you visit.

6. Managing and Disabling Cookies

You have the right to control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:

  • View and delete existing cookies
  • Block cookies from specific websites
  • Block all third-party cookies
  • Clear all cookies when you close your browser
  • Set up alerts when cookies are being set

Instructions for managing cookies in common browsers:

  • Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
  • Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data

Important: Disabling strictly necessary cookies (particularly Supabase authentication cookies) will prevent you from logging in and accessing protected features of the Platform. We recommend keeping essential cookies enabled for full functionality.

7. Consent

By continuing to use the JobCompanion Platform after being presented with this Cookie Policy, you consent to our use of cookies as described herein. For strictly necessary cookies, consent is implied by your use of the Platform, as these cookies are required for basic functionality. For non-essential cookies (analytics, etc.), we will seek your explicit consent before activating them.

8. Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, particularly when we add new features or integrate new third-party services that use cookies. We will notify you of material changes via email or a prominent notice on the Platform. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects when the policy was last revised.
